Straight Answers
The questions providers ask us most, answered plainly.
How are cases assigned?
We can assign cases to you. Or, once you’re onboarded, you can build your own caseload through our provider dashboard.
Can I choose the zip codes and neighborhoods I work in?
Yes. You choose your zip codes and service locations, and all preferences are considered and honored.
Is drive time or travel paid?
Drive time and travel aren’t paid. Since you choose your own zip codes and service locations, you can keep travel to a minimum.
What happens when a family cancels?
You can reschedule the visit or schedule a make-up session.
Are birth–3 and Pre-K the same program?
No. Philadelphia Early Intervention has two separate programs: Infant/Toddler Early Intervention (birth to 3) and Preschool/Pre-K Early Intervention (ages 3–5). Some details differ between them, including annual training requirements.
Is documentation time paid?
It depends on the program. Documentation time is paid for Infant/Toddler Early Intervention (birth to 3) cases. It isn’t paid for Preschool/Pre-K Early Intervention (ages 3–5) cases.
Am I a W-2 employee or a 1099 contractor?
1099. Providers work with GentleCare as independent contractors.
How often are providers paid?
Every two weeks. Providers are paid biweekly.
Can I also work for other agencies?
Yes. You’re welcome to work with other agencies too, and that’s fine with us. We also offer bonuses based on volume.
When are the sign-on and referral bonuses paid?
Sign-on bonuses ($2,000 for speech-language pathologists; $1,000 for occupational therapists and special instructors) are paid after your first 6 months. The $500 referral bonus is paid once the provider you referred is hired and completes their first 6 months. Terms subject to change.
How do I refer a provider?
If you already work with us, use the “Refer a provider” button on your provider dashboard. The person you refer gets an email inviting them to apply.

About the PCA Role
As a PCA, you have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child’s day, every day. PCAs provide one-on-one support to preschool-aged children with special needs, helping them safely participate, learn, communicate, build relationships, and become more independent in their classroom environment. By providing consistent, compassionate support, PCAs help children access experiences and opportunities they may not otherwise be able to navigate successfully. It’s a hands-on role where your presence, patience, and encouragement can have a lasting impact on a child and their family.
